Collectively we have developed a good deal of experience around how to make things work and what pitfalls to avoid. We can use this experience to: 1. Help other groups to sponsor and support more refugee families. 2. Continue to support the people already resettled in Cornwall.
We support the important work of Cornwall Faith Forum and the care they provide for the locally resettled families under the vulnerable persons resettlement scheme.
We aim to try to communicate with people in towns large enough to provide sponsorship, then help them better understand the challenges and how best to manage them. In the first place this might mean an open meeting to identify potential sponsors and make them aware of what has been done so far. In the future this may involve workshops, case-by-case advice, and so on. We want our website serve as a resource; a way of celebrating what has been done so far; and most important, a way to find the people with the most relevant hands-on experience around specific issues. We also should continue to provide the day-to-day resources needed by refugees already resettled, from conversations to ironing boards.
